چکیده

Peer-to-peer storage networks aim at aggregating the unused storage in today’s resource-abundant computers to form a large, shared storage space. To lay over the extremely variant machines, networks and administrative organizations, peer-topeer storage networks must be aware of the capabilities of the constituent components to leverage their resources, performance and reliability. This paper reports our design of such a peer-to-peer storage network, called Tornado. Tornado is built on top of two concepts. The first is the virtual home concept, which adds an extra level of abstraction between data and storage nodes to mask the underlying heterogeneity. The second concept is the classification of the storage nodes into “good” and “bad” according to their static and dynamic capabilities. Only “good” peers can host virtual homes, whereby introducing quality of services into the storage network. We evaluate Tornado via simulation. The results show that Tornado is comparable with previous systems, where each route takes at most N log hops, a new node takes 2 log N messages to join, and the memory overhead in each node is ( ) N O log . Moreover, Tornado is able to provide comprehensive services with features scattered in different systems previously, and takes account of and exploits the heterogeneity in the underlying network environment.

TAC: A Topology-Aware Chord-based Peer-to-Peer Network

Among structured Peer-to-Peer systems, Chord has a general popularity due to its salient features like simplicity, high scalability, small path length with respect to network size, and flexibility on node join and departure. However, Chord doesn’t take into account the topology of underlying physical network when a new node is being added to the system, thus resulting in high routing late...

An approach to minimize Topology Mismatch Problem in similarity -Aware Heterogeneous P2P Networks

The primary properties of the existing large scale peer-to-peer system include very high heterogeneity and dynamic nature of the participating peers in the network. Properties of peers such as peer session length, accessible bandwidth, storage space are highly varied with small set of peers controlling large part of the total system resources which results in low performance of the system. The ...

P2P Network Trust Management Survey

Peer-to-peer applications (P2P) are no longer limited to home users, and start being accepted in academic and corporate environments. While file sharing and instant messaging applications are the most traditional examples, they are no longer the only ones benefiting from the potential advantages of P2P networks. For example, network file storage, data transmission, distributed computing, and co...

Efficient Peer-to-Peer Data Dissemination in Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks

Without infrastructural support from base stations, mobile nodes in an ad hoc network communicate with each other in a peer-to-peer fashion. This poses a challenge in data dissemination among the mobile peers, each having limited transmission range and unpredictable mobility. In this paper, we first propose a novel mobility model to characterize user mobility in a civilian environment, such as ...

Improving Peer to Peer Search With Multi-Tier Capability-Aware Overlay Topologies

The P2P model has many potential advantages (e.g., large scale, fault-tolerance, low cost of administration and maintenance) due to the design flexibility of overlay networks and the decentralized management of cooperative sharing of information and resources. However, the mismatch between the randomly constructed overlay network topology (combined with its broadcaststyle message forwarding inf...
